The Last Post was founded by Pegeen Fitzgerald, a New York radio personality, advertising executive, author and animal advocate.
It is a project that is sponsored by The Vivisection Investigation League and The Millennium Guild, both organizations which Mrs. Fitzgerald had been President of until her untimely death in 1989.
The Last Post's primary purpose is to provide a safe, homelike surrounding for animals whose previous owners have died or gone into nursing homes.
Animals are left to the Last Post in wills, or special arrangements are made by contacting our attorney:

From New York:
Take the Saw Mill Parkway to Rte.22 North. Rte. 22 North to Millerton, NY to Rte.44. Take Rte.44 East five miles, past the center of Salisbury,CT to Rte.126, it is the first right hand turn after the bridge. Take Rte.126 South 1/10 of a mile to the Last Post. Turn right when you see the white sign with a black cat.
From Connecticut:
Take Interstate 1-84 to Route 8 Waterbury. Take Route 8 North to Winsted and Right to Rte.44 West, through the towns of Winsted, Norfolk, and Canaan where you will ten find Rte. 126 South. Take Rte. 126 South 1/10 of a mile to The Last Post. Turn right at the white sign with a black cat.
From Massachusetts:
Take Interstate 1-84 to Rte.8. Take Rte.8 North to Winsted and Right to Rte.44 West through the towns of Winsted, Norfolk, and Canaan where you will then find Rte.126 South. Take Rte.126 1/10 of a mile to The Last Post. Turn right at the white sign with the black cat.
